What were some of the most popular, designer-approved interior trends in 2022? In tandem with our forecast at the close of 2022 , where we anticipated a growing emphasis on biophilic and eco-friendly design , the evolving landscape of interior trends in 2023 has witnessed the remarkable rise of several unique concepts. Among these, the artful mixing of materials has emerged as a prominent trend, encouraging the exploration and combination of various textures and materials within a singular space. We had also noticed that the key trends revolved around earthy tones and neutral palettes, soft shapes, enhanced with biophilia and vintage pieces. This amalgamation of earthy tones, soft shapes, biophilic touches and vintage accents not only crafted visually captivating interiors but also reflected a contemporary ethos that embraced diversity and fluidity in design. What trend were you happy to see fade out in 2023? The dominance of oversized patterns. If oversized patterns are falling out of favor, it suggests a broader movement towards a more subtle and refined approach to interior design. Oversized patterns, while bold and eye-catching, often had the potential to overwhelm a room, dominating the visual landscape and sometimes compromising the overall harmony of the design. As the design landscape pivots away from the era of larger-than-life patterns, there is an evident appreciation for the intricate interplay of textures, colors and smaller-scale patterns. This shift not only allows for a more versatile and timeless aesthetic but also encourages a more personalized and curated approach to interior design. What would you like to see in its place in 2024? In the upcoming design landscape of 2024, the unwavering commitment to mindfulness and wellness should set center stage, guiding a transformative approach to interior spaces. We should poise to prioritize the holistic well-being of occupants, seamlessly weaving together elements that will address physical, mental and emotional health. An even further intensified emphasis on biophilic design should be at the front of our minds and intentionally integrating nature into spaces, optimizing them to maximize natural light, ventilation, and incorporate natural textures. Quiet spaces, designed for tranquility and reflection, should become more prevalent, offering a sanctuary from the fast-paced modern world. It would be good to see inclusive and accessible design principles gain momentum, ensuring that wellness-oriented spaces are welcoming to people of all abilities. We believe the flexibility and adaptability of spaces should play a crucial role, allowing interiors to effortlessly transform to cater to diverse needs and activities, ultimately contributing to the overall wellness of those who will inhabit them.
