The awards—which recognize CEOs, COOs, CTOs and other top leaders who have “significantly shaped how we do business on Long Island,” according to the Herald and RichnerLive—were presented to more than 50 honorees in various business sectors at a gala event on Nov. 29 at The Heritage Club at Bethpage in Farmingdale. Todd Bourgard A longtime top-producing agent in the Hamptons before becoming Senior Executive Manager of Sales for the region in 2019, Bourgard has been at the helm of Douglas Elliman’s brokerage on Long Island, the Hamptons and the North Fork since January 2023, and has earned a reputation as a diligent, ethical and hands-on leader with an innate ability to motivate and inspire his team. Under his leadership, Elliman has cemented its position as the market leader from Queens to Montauk, ranking as the number one brokerage on Long Island, in the Hamptons and on the North Fork. Upon being selected a Top Chief Officer, he shared his perspectives on leadership in an interview with the Long Island Herald , below: LIH: What’s the most valuable piece of advice you’ve received in your career, and how has it shaped your leadership style? TB: Both Elliman’s Chairman, Howard M. Lorber, and CEO Scott Durkin, gave me the same advice when I assumed leadership of the Long Island, Hamptons & North Fork regions, which was to be always accessible to your staff and agents, and to be yourself. With the responsibility of overseeing 35 offices and 2,000 agents, it’s a rare occasion that you will find me sitting behind my desk. I find it is most productive to be out in the field, visiting multiple offices daily, seeing agents, management, and staff in person, helping them on the ground to troubleshoot any issues, and keeping in tune with the market and deals that are happening in real time. Their advice to deliver that personal touch – to be authentic, approachable, and visible to my team – has been invaluable in cultivating the family feel we enjoy here at Elliman. LIH: In a rapidly changing business landscape, how do you ensure your organization remains adaptable and innovative in the face of disruption?  It is so important that we keep our agents ahead of the curve and supported. We have an award-winning Learning and Development team in-house, and Elliman is continuously looking for new tools and technologies to give our agents an edge as they grow their own businesses. Corporately, through our PropTech investment arm, New Valley Ventures, Elliman is also investing in innovation with new additions to the tech toolkit we provide to our agents such as StudioPro, Elliman Showroom, and AdPro – all of which we have rolled out just this year.  AI is profoundly transforming the way we do business, and our commitment to developing and investing in AI-powered PropTech like AdPro will ensure we stay at the leading edge of innovation. LIH: In the midst of your busy schedule, how do you maintain a work-life balance, and what activities or practices help you recharge and stay focused? No matter how busy I am, I make it a priority to go to the gym four to five mornings week. A good workout puts a pep in my step, and I leave the gym with the energy and mental clarity I need to meet the challenges of the day. I also love to travel, and my wife and I plan one big trip a year. It’s something to look forward to, and that time away helps me to decompress and return with renewed focus and drive.
