Inside Huntington Village with Interior Designer Eileen Kathryn Boyd
by Elliman Editors
September 2017
Interior designer Eileen Kathryn Boyd earns praise from her clients for her ability to create living environments that are both practical and aesthetically pleasing. The same could be said of Huntington Village, where Boyd lives and has headquartered her eponymously titled business for more than two decades.
“Huntington Village is a town for people who want the benefits of a city but in a country environment,” says Boyd. Home to town government, cozy residences, and a flourishing commercial core dotted with quaint one- and two-story shops, Huntington Village is the heart of greater Huntington, a 200,000-resident patchwork of villages and hamlets on the north shore of Long Island’s Suffolk County. At its center is the intersection of Main Street and New York Avenue, which Boyd calls “the 57th and Fifth Avenue of Huntington.”
“The Village” is the kind of happily situated, pedestrian-friendly place where North Shore beaches are just a bike ride away and where teens, including Boyd’s children, walk to the town center to grab a bite or catch a movie at the multiplex with friends rather than asking to borrow the car, she tells Bill Partsch in Elliman Magazine .
TASTER’S CHOICES

“My go-to restaurant is Café Buenos Aires for Argentine fare like solomillo, grilled steak with portobello mushrooms and melted brie, or gnocchi with scallops and garlic truffle sauce. And the homemade sangria is amazing.
“For casual family-friendly meals, there’s Finnegan’s , which offers classic Irish pub grub along with lighter selections, including an incredible chopped salad with Swiss, chicken, and Bermuda onion.”
“On Huntington Harbor, a mile up New York Avenue from the center of the Village, is Prime , a high-end steakhouse where you can watch the yachts pull up in the summer. In the winter, I sit by the fire with friends in the Lodge area and order from the à la carte menu.”

“Huntington Village owes much of its picturesqueness to philanthropist August Heckscher, who gave the town a beautiful 18-acre park and, within it, a Beaux Arts-style art museum. Both are named for him. Hecksher Park is often called the Central Park of Huntington. The Heckscher Museum of Art ’s collection includes five centuries of Western art. As Huntingtonians, we’re very, very proud of the museum. It’s a cornerstone of the Village.”
SOUND & VISION

“My favorite spot for films is Cinema Arts Centre , the local art house theater. For live music, nothing beats The Paramount ( ranked no. 11 among all club venues in the world in ticket sales for the first half of 2017, according to Pollstar ). The shows I’ve seen there are just awesome.”
