Introducing Douglas Elliman’s Long Island Rookie of the Year: Glen Fox

by Elliman Editors

April 2021

In early 2020, Glen Fox joined Douglas Elliman’s Long Beach office and two weeks later the pandemic hit. But Glen didn’t let that slow him down. With a formidable background in marketing and advertising at top New York City agencies, he understood the power of an iconic brand like Douglas Elliman and how to gain an edge in promoting his listings and attracting buyers, earning Douglas Elliman Rookie of the Year for Long Island along the way. Elliman Insider caught up with Glen to find out how he relied on his background to succeed, his goals for sophomore year and the advice he’d offer new agents looking to make a break. Glen Fox You were named Elliman’s Rookie of the Year for Long Island. How does that feel? Glen Fox: Honestly, at first I was surprised. Like most, I hold myself to a very high standard and quite often find myself asking, ‘What have I done lately?’ That said, when I took a moment to slow down and reflect, I realized all my hard work had paid off. I had been able to help a lot of people find some joy and excitement in a year that was scary, uncertain and sad for many because of the pandemic. When I joined the Elliman family, I knew I was joining a competitive field, in a competitive office, at a company known worldwide for their talent; I knew it would be tough to make a mark, but I was determined. What I certainly didn’t know is that two weeks into this new venture a pandemic would hit, real estate would shut down for three months and in just eight months of hard work I would receive the great honor of Elliman’s ‘Rookie of the Year!’ EI: Tell us a little about your background. Did you always love real estate? GF: I love the art of a deal and have always enjoyed how each town, city and market all over the world are different. Prior to real estate I was the SVP, Global head of content production for a Tier 1 advertising firm. Working in advertising was a passion of mine and I enjoyed working directly with the clients and that directly crosses over in real estate. In my previous career I would work with my clients on how to create award winning work while carefully spending their money just as I enjoy working with my buyers and sellers making sure they get top dollar for their property or top property for their dollar. EI: 2020 was an interesting year for everyone, but especially for a rookie. How did you manage to rise to the top? GF: Honestly, hard work. Normally I’m a very modest guy and enjoy helping others but this was put your blinders on, keep your head down and work. My wife and I joined together and had to quickly learn and adapt to this new world and new career with a toddler running around. At times it was complete chaos at our house, and we didn’t know if we could make this all work, but determination carried us through. As for rising to the top, I’m still working on it, but I believe customer service is helping me make headway. Even with all of the real estate sites, CRM tools, AI and social media, the human touch still makes an impact on people. It’s important to connect with your client, how else are you going to help them make one of the more important decisions of their life? EI: What motivates you? GF: Plain and simple, my family! I want to ensure my family is taken care of after I’m gone and that buyers, seller and tenants have a life-changing experience. Let’s face it, the sales industry, including licensed real estate agents, get a bad rap. I was brought up to be the best at whatever I choose to do and to always remember the importance of treating people how you want to be treated so that’s what I strive for. No matter how much you make or what you do, we all have problems, family and bills, it’s how you react to it that defines you. Fox Family EI: Why did you choose Elliman? GF: Elliman is a brand name, a household name, a luxury brand. I used that to my advantage. With my background in advertising, I was able to ensure my sellers and buyers that when you work with me you will never be disappointed. There’s a reason why we are #1. EI: Any advice for new agents? GF: The first thing we look for is how to emulate a successful agent or join a team, but what’s most important is to remember to always be yourself. The best way to learn is to dive in head-first. The truth is, you are going to make mistakes and you’re not going to know all of the answers so don’t be afraid to ask questions and never pretend to know something you don’t. EI: What are your goals for 2021? GF: To do what I did this past year but better! Stay humble, hungry and keep my head down and work. My wife and I had hopes to double our business, but we have nearly doubled it in the first 3 months of this year, so we are off to setting new goals. Together, we are looking to grow the team, possibly venture into new development and in general are staying open to new opportunities and new challenges, whatever that may look like! Also, I want to mention my wife. Yes, I received Rookie of the Year, but she has been the ultimate supporter and I couldn’t have done it without her. Now that our first year is behind us, we are officially a team, The Fox Team, and we are eager to see what the real estate world has in store for us together.
