The Little Red Ski Haus, an Aspen Gem

by Elliman Editors

January 2020

As the oldest Victorian lodge in Aspen, built in 1888, the Little Red Ski Haus —as designated by the sign on the front gate—has been through many iterations in its 132-year history. But one thing remains, the fire-engine red Victorian facade is a beacon in downtown Aspen. Today, the property is offered as a vacation rental. A full renovation a few years ago updated every room in the house with modern fixtures, elegant finishes and ample entertaining space for large groups. The home can easily function as a private family home (if rezoned), or a bed and breakfast. In fact, the Little Red Ski Haus operated as a bed and breakfast for 37 years, until 1999. The home was almost turned into a fractional property in the early 2000s, but that never came to fruition, to the benefit of many happy vacation renters. “The Little Red Ski Haus’s location is desirable as it’s the largest home available for rent within the core of Aspen. It has 14 bedrooms and 13.5 bathrooms, a large dining and living area, commercial kitchen, gym and bar.” — Simon Chen, listing agent Just one block from Wagner Park, home of the Aspen FOOD & WINE Classic, and two blocks from Aspen’s restaurant row and the heart of town, the home enjoys easy access to everything an Aspen visitor could need including Lift 1A and the gondola. At approximately 6,677 square feet, with 14 bedrooms and 13.5 bathrooms, it is the largest rental available in Aspen’s downtown core. The spacious dining room features a table that seats 24 guests. Other amenities include a commercial kitchen, a 20-foot-long bar, a gym, a ski lockermud room and a hot tub. Not to mention the mountain views of Aspen, Smuggler and Red. Almost as old as the city of Aspen itself, the Little Red Ski Haus stands as a reminder of the enduring spirit of the miners who first inhabited this beautiful place. —by Jacqueline Kuron Discover more Aspen ski homes currently on the market.
