Neighborhood Guide: Singer Island

by Elliman Editors

March 2018

The Sunshine State is almost as well-known for its picturesque beaches as its hordes of tourists. Singer Island bucks this trend and remains a tucked away, almost completely untouched oasis, shielding itself from the throngs of tourists that descend upon nearby Palm Beach. Thankfully, the lack of crowds doesn’t amount to a ghost town, and there is never a shortage of things to do. For those seeking some peace and quiet or an array of activities, Singer Island proves you don’t need to trek all the way down to the Florida Keys to dig your toes into the sand. We’ve gathered a list of the best things to experience in this secluded yet accessible isle, from sea turtle sightings to authentic conch fritters. What to Do The calm and peaceful spot is abundant with Instagram-worthy spots, and strolling the beach is just a tiny snippet of the heaping activities this captivating island has to offer. Boating and Fishing Seafarers flock to Sailfish Marina , where Big Sport Fishing or languorous sailors are welcomed with a slip for the day or the entire year. For those without a boat, sport fishing and sailboat charters with veteran fisherman are available year-round. The marina is also a popular place to enjoy the dazzling sunset while sitting down for a fresh seafood dinner . Underwater Snorkel Trail at Phil Foster Park The west side of the island opens up to Riviera Beach, where crystal blue waters forge upon the Underwater Snorkel Trail , a prime spot for viewing underwater attractions such as eels, squid, starfish, stingrays, and dazzling tropical fish. Some visitors have even spotted the elusive and loveable manatee, so here’s hoping you might be as lucky. Sea Turtle Nests Sea turtles return year after year to Singer Island and the surrounding Palm Beaches from May through October. In order to protect the turtles from growing encounters with visitors, park rangers and nature centers offer guided nesting tours . Experienced divers can plunge into the deep to visit the turtle habitats year-round with Pura Vida Divers . In March, visitors who can’t get enough of the tiny sea creatures can check out Turtlefest , an annual event that allows visitors to encounter endangered sea turtles up close in a protected environment.      Kayaking and Paddleboarding For those looking for an unconventional way to explore the island with an even better chance to spot a manatee, kayak and paddleboards provide memorable marine life encounters. Day tours take visitors through John D. MacArthur State Park and nighttime light-up paddleboard “glow” tours provide an unforgettable paddle—glow sticks included. Where to Eat Singer Island is a beautiful stretch of beach, filled with tiny seafood houses and hotel restaurants. Its proximity to West Palm Beach makes dining options easy, but we found tasty selections from seafood to Turkish delights right around the corner. Agora Mediterranean Kitchen Photo: Yelp A lovely little surprise among a host of beachy seafood restaurants, this Mediterranean gem offers flavorful dishes sourced from local ingredients. Various vegan and vegetarian-friendly options ensure there are delicious options for everyone, and the ambience is reminiscent of the owner’s Turkish roots, complete with a traditional belly dance. Entre Nous Bistro Photo: Entre Nous Bistro If you’re willing to make the 2-mile trek to North Palm Beach, this delightful little bistro offers cozy French fare within an intimate setting. Don’t let the location in a small mall fool you; locals fiercely maintain that this is some of the best food in the area. The mouth-watering rack of lamb is a diner’s favorite, and the ample wine list is sure to please any palette. Reef Tiki Bar Photo: TripAdvisor Sitting right off the sand, this Tiki Hut is the perfect stop for a few cocktails, small bites, and a fresh ocean breeze. The bar is part of the local Marriott, but its beachfront location means all visitors are welcome to pull up a chair and unwind. Mulligan’s Beach House Mulligan’s is casual, unpretentious, and all about fun. This happy-go-lucky beach bar comes alive with live music from Thursday to Sunday and prides itself on fun events throughout the year. But don’t let the lively, carefree atmosphere fool you – the food is very serious. The conch fritters and grilled mahi-mahi alone are worth the trip to Singer Island.
