Neighborhood Guide

FRANKLIN SQUARE

Multiple generations of many families have made their home in Franklin Square, a stable, middle-class community in western Nassau County with well-kept properties and an active civic culture. Fully developed by the early 1950s, Franklin Square has many prewar homes, often made of brick. Lot sizes of 40-by-100 or 60-by-100 feet are typical in the hamlet. Franklin Square is home to several good restaurants, which along with stores, services, and professional offices line Hempstead Turnpike and a few other commercial streets. Town of Hempstead Rath Park provides a pool, sports fields and courts, and a small village green. The Southern State Parkway runs along the hamlet’s southern border.
