OYSTER BAY

Kids in Oyster Bay grow up learning to sail at the WaterFront Center and swimming at the beaches, including Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park, one of many local landmarks named for the 26th president, who summered in the area. Off the beaten path on Nassau County's North Shore, the nautical hamlet has a large, bustling downtown with several intersecting streets of mom-and-pop shops and restaurants in historic buildings. Older homes, many with front porches, on small lots typify the downtown, while newer homes on larger properties can be found on the outskirts. Shops in town include 20th Century Cycles, which displays Billy Joel's collection of about 75 motorcycles. Oyster Bay is home to a number of villages such as Laurel Hollow, Cove Neck, and Bayville.
