Located not far from the center of downtown Houston, this beautiful neighborhood is known for its stately streets lined with majestic live oaks and dignified mansions. Visitors and locals alike can take a stroll through the 14 acres of Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens; here, one can explore manicured gardens and the former home of Ima Hogg, Governor Jim Hogg's daughter, who was known as the First Lady of Texas because of her philanthropic work throughout the state and the country. An exquisite collection of decorative arts and paintings are showcased in the former historic home. As it turns out, vision and leadership run in the family: Ima's brothers-Will, Mike, and Hugh Hogg-were responsible for the 1,100-acre development of River Oaks between 1926 and 1947.
