SANDS POINT
Sands Point was the inspiration for F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby," which celebrated the Jazz Age lifestyle. Most of the grand estates from that era have been subdivided, but some historic mansions remain in Sands Point, which has one-acre zoning. Located at the tip of the Port Washington peninsula, the village has no commercial businesses, but stores, restaurants and services are nearby in Port Washington. The 216-acre Sands Point Preserve, formerly the estate of the Goulds and the Guggenheims, includes historic mansions and a museum and offers educational and recreational programs. Next door, the Village Club of Sands Point has golf, tennis, a pool and a clubhouse built in 1916 for Isaac Guggenheim.

SANDS POINT
The lawn started at the beach and ran toward the front door for a quarter of a mile, jumping over sun-dials and brick walks and burning gardens, is how F. Scott Fitzgerald's main character of The Great Gatsby described fictional character Daisy Buchanan's home in East Egg, based off of Sands Point.
