Syosset is a desirable community with beautiful homes on well-kept properties. There are older homes in the northern reaches of the hamlet-a heavily treed area that was settled earlier-while the homes in the southern half tend to be newer. In the center, a busy commercial district along Jackson Avenue includes an LIRR station and all manner of mom-and-pop shops, from restaurants to salons to boutiques. Commercial businesses also line Jericho Turnpike, which cuts through the hamlet, as do the Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway, providing convenience. Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, just over the border in Woodbury, offers a swimming pool, ice skating rink, and ballfields.
