GARMENT DISTRICT

Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Jason Wu and Michael Kors are just a few of the fashion designers whose companies are headquartered in this highly specialized slice of Manhattan, where it’s not uncommon to see racks full of clothes being wheeled down crowded sidewalks. The nearby Fashion Institute of Technology’s alumni list like a who’s who of the industry—many of their graduates’ names are immortalized in the Fashion Walk of Fame on Seventh (aka Fashion) Avenue—and their museum’s exhibits are free and open to the public. As are yoga, Thai chi, boot camp and fencing classes in Bryant Park, where, in the summer, there are complimentary outdoor movies and a comedian-hosted, highly competitive, bingo night.
