Neighborhood Guide

TURTLE BAY

Stretching from East 43rd to 53rd Streets and from Lexington Avenue to the East River,áTurtle Bay is an international enclave on what used to be Dutch farmland. Anchored by the United Nations campus, the area boasts dozens of countries' missions and consulates, and the types of businesses, restaurants, and specialty groceries that cater to a global clientele. It's an easy walk to other parts of Midtown and the Upper East Side, which could take one by the sculpture garden at Amster Yard or the 25-foot waterfall in Greenacre Park. But the real gem of this neighborhood remains private to most: Turtle Bay Gardens, a cluster of historic townhomes on East 48th and 49th Streets, with an incredible shared garden in between.
