Westchester & Putnam

Westchester County is located at the southeastern tip of New York State. The county has a total area of 500 square miles of which 433 square miles is land and 67 square miles are water. The County shares its northern boundary with Putnam County and its southern boundary with New York City. It is bordered on the west side by the Hudson River and on the east side by Long Island Sound and Fairfield County, Connecticut. Westchester and Putnam became the first large scale suburban area in the world to develop. Its significance as a suburb derived mostly from the upper-middle class development of entire communities in the late 19th century, and the rapid population growth that occurred as a result. Putnam County is located in the lower Hudson River Valley. Both counties are part of the New York Metropolitan Area.

Geographically, Westchester County has six cities, 19 towns and 20 villages. There are six towns and three incorporated villages in Putnam County.

Westchester and Putnam Counties are served by The Hudson and Harlem Train Lines and Interstate 87 and Interstate 84 and 684 and the Taconic State Parkway. Two bridges span the Hudson River. The Tappan Zee Bridge connects Tarrytown to Rockland County, and the Bear Mountain Bridge reaches from Cortlandt to Orange County.
